It's My 30th Post!

That's right, 30 posts ago I started this blog, and what better way to celebrate this milestone than with homage to the greatest beverage of all time, the 40. For those of you unrefined types that have never had the chance to partake in the magic of Malt Liquor, let me describe exactly what you're missing.

Imagine sun pouring down on you, and you alone, in the middle of a rainstorm. Imagine the smiling faces of a thousand angels carrying you to the Promised Land. If you can imagine this, then you're well on your way to knowing how it feels when you first crack open some O.E.

The 40, long regarded as the official beverage of Gangsters, Punk Rockers and the homeless, has taken on a bright, shining new life in recent years. Everyone's getting in on the fun! Even the often snooty Village Voice has chimed in with some commentary on the magic elixir.

From Martha Stewart to your average, ordinary, every-day drunk 40's are all the rage these days. And why not? Where else but in the loving arms of a 40 can you get the ultimate in Malt Liquor satisfaction for a whopping $1.50. The 40 is everywhere, in every facet of pop culture. From the Larry
Clark classic, "Kids" to the occasional Elton John video, 40's have managed to work their way into nearly every type of entertainment.

Unfortunately a stigma surrounds the world of the 40 aficionado. The images of gangbangers, mohawks, or street people has successfully run the average consumer as far away from the 40 as possible, but true fans know that a 40 man (or woman) can come in any package.

Luckily, the internet has managed to bring the 40 oz community together. Groups have started popping up from place to place, fighting the good fight for 40 freedom. Take Da 40/40 Club for example. Thank God for their website, otherwise I'd never know the heirarchy of the organization, I'd never know where to find the Capo of Deez Nutz.

Without a doubt, the ultimate online resource for the 40phile must be www.40ozmaltliquor.com. The site is a comprehensive listing of all things 40 related, including a spectacular section of the appearances of 40's in music, television and adult films (my personal favorite being Old Dirty Sanchez: Stank Dick). The site also features quality reviews of different 40's from around the globe, such insightful comments as, "This shit initially tasted like shit. Pure shit."

So don't wait until February 9th (National 40 Day), hug a 40 today! I leave you with a quote from 90's hip hop outfit, the Young Black Teenagers, "Tap the bottle and twist the cap, and pass it around the crew 'cause the crew be all that."
